MOTHERS AS STRANGERS? – Strange as it may seem, there are instances when mothers are strangers… to their children.
Kim Chiu didn’t know the whereabouts of her mother, Louella, for years. She vanished into thin air – or so it seemed – when she broke up with her husband William. During interviews Kim turned teary-eyed when asked about her. The press rightly didn’t pursue the issue.
But her handlers whispered that Kim had no communication whatsoever with her missing mother, thanking the press for respecting her feelings, “Di ninyo pinaiyak si Kim.”
Kim grew up with her paternal grandmother as father William had his own priorities.
SAD REUNION – But when Kim learned that her mother was in a hospital, the daughter rushed to her side. For a week, she took time out from her work in Manila and flew to Cebu every day.
Louella was already comatose, unable to pay her hospital bills. It was at this point that Louella’s relatives sought the help of Kim, even if she herself didn’t what Kim and her family to know about her plight.
When Kim achieved fame and fortune, Louella could have come forward to ask for financial help. But she never did, perhaps afraid that it might affect unfavorably the image of her daughter.
Louella was buried last June 29. >>
